The Academic

Tessara is a writer, historian, and activist. Graduating from Portland State University in Summer 2017 with BAs in Black Studies, Liberal Studies, and Social Science, Tessara plans to pursue a PhD in African & African Diaspora History, with a research focus on the economic and community work of African Diasporan women in the late modern period. Her interest is in illuminating the role African and African-descended women played in building and sustaining community across the diaspora, and she hopes to complete a trans-national historical study of African and African-descended women’s participation within informal economies.
